Special Needs Unit

Usually a smaller number of students attend this class, about 6, aged between 14 – 21 years. All students have severe disabilities and some use wheelchairs. Most students have no speech and therefore teaching them self-help becomes the priority. Tidying the compound by raking leaves, wiping tables, sweeping the classroom, washing plates, brushing their teeth and dressing themselves are some of the activities taught and practiced regularly.
Subjects taught in this class are pre-writing and pre-language skills. They are also taught basic sign language, sensory and motor skills which are adapted to meet individual students needs. This class also enjoys playing percussion instruments in the music room and gross motor skills activities like walking or playing with a ball etc.
